Day 14 Do we have to go snorkeling again???

Hmmm, what to do today? Maybe go snorkeling? We haven't done that for a day or two...

Loaded up the car and headed for Poipu beach.
Stopped at the store and returned the waterlogged underwater camera and Lori picked up a digital underwater camera.

This just cracked me up for some reason. No. 1 Chinese food and BBQ. We didn't see any No. 2 Chinese food and BBQ's on the island??

Set up our beach chairs here and ate sandwiches that Lori made. Little birds where all over the place and we were throwing pieces of potato chips out for them...

Which attracted the attention of the chickens!

This little girl had some kind of issue with them.

What can I say? Chicks dig me!

And then the real fun began. We took a ziplock bag with holes punched in it and snorkeled out a ways.

A few fish started swirling around us.

This Christmas Wrasse looks like it has a cartoon face.

Then a few more showed up.

Kailin was out with us and didn't seem to care that there were fish swarming around us.

Lori held the bag for a few minutes until the bigger fish started attacking it! Then she handed it off to me. I figured out real quick to hold it above the water!

The feeding frenzy had begun! They were all over the place!

The striped ones are Sergeants. The one on the left is a Hawaiian and the one on the right is an Indo-Pacific.

The bigger ones are grey Chubs (I think).

Bedlam erupted!

The Christmas Wrasse was so cool to watch swimming with the other fish.

Lori finally asked me to dump the rest of the bag out. Other snorkelers were starting to mill about. I think they were in other spots thinking "Where the heck are all the fish!"
We swam out a bit and started taking pictures of smaller groups of fish.

Orangeband Surgeonfish and a Sergeant.

Not the best frame job, but the Christmas Wrasses as so colorful!

A Moorish Idol (Yellow and Black) and a Purple Wickerbill (Just kidding, I couldn't ID the one on the left.)

Kailin was quite the trooper to hang on to Lori while she snorkeled!

A Unicorn fish...really...I didn't make that one up.

Lois took Kailin back to the beach and Lori and I continued on. There were three of these in about 15 feet of water and I dove down with the camera to get several pics. This was the best...

Popee tries his hand at pearl diving...I think I will keep my day job.

Butterflyfish.

Fourspot Butterflyfish.

Another Orangeband Surgeonfish.

This was a school of baby Convict Tangs. They were only about 2 inches long.

And, a Wrasse of some sort. Couldn't pin an ID on him as easy as the convicts...

These are both Wrasse's. Quite a difference in them.

Convict Tangs and a Wrasse of a different color.

Not professional grade photos by any means, but we were very pleased with the quality of the pictures. Just need to do a better job of aiming it! With the 2 gb card that we put in it, I figured that it will hold about 6000 pictures! Or about 10 lbs of batteries...

On the way back we went down a side road and saw this 57 Chevy that looks like it has been sitting for years.

Went back to the house then made the short trip to the end of the road on this side of the island.
Well, kind of a short trip as the last several miles are bone jarring dirt roads. But the Maui Marauder got us there and back!

We have now driven as far around the island as possible.

Poli Hali beach was very cool, but not a place to go swimming. The waves where BIG!

Looking north.

Looking south.

Nanee and Kailin checking out the waves.

And, we picked up some more shells...

And, as a closing shot for the day, a sign in the restroom.

Do they need a bigger sign so that they could list the rest of the things that someone might put down the toilet???  Sticks?...Really???
